Pietro Mascagni honored in Livorno with concert and festival activities

A morning concert was held in Livorno to mark the 81st anniversary of the death of composer Pietro Mascagni. Organized by the Mascagni Festival in collaboration with the Conservatory Pietro Mascagni, the free‑entry event took place near the mausoleum where the composer rests. Attendees included Livorno cultural assessor Angela Rafanelli, foundation director Massimiliano Mautone, conservatory director Federico Rovini and festival artistic director Marco Voleri. Soprano Claire Nesti performed arias from Cavalleria rusticana and Pinotta, arranged for a sax quartet, followed by the famous Intermezzo.

A related biography noted Mascagni’s birth in Livorno in 1863, his breakthrough with Cavalleria rusticana, and his pioneering work on early film soundtracks such as Rapsodia Satanica (1915) and La Canzone del Sole (1934). The piece highlighted his international career, leadership roles in Italian musical institutions, and the lasting tribute of the conservatory that bears his name.
