Pietro Palumbo, local figure in Montoro and Salerno, passes away

Pietro Palumbo, widely known by his nicknames ‘Pietro ’a Patan’ and ‘Pietro da Banzano,’ has died. He was 74 years old and was nearing his 75th birthday in November.

A well-known figure in the Montoro and Salerno regions, Palumbo was recognized for his distinctive habit of cycling approximately 50 kilometers between Banzano and Salerno. He was frequently seen riding his bicycle barefoot and often in swimwear, regardless of the weather conditions, including rain or snow.

His passing has drawn significant local mourning, with many residents and commuters describing him as a familiar and beloved presence in the Irno Valley and the Salerno seaside areas.
