Pietro Puzone, former Napoli player, hospitalized after being found in Acerra

Pietro Puzone, a former Napoli footballer and close friend of Diego Armando Maradona, has been hospitalized following a period of extreme hardship. The 63-year-old, who won the Scudetto and Coppa Italia with Napoli in 1987, was found in a critical state on a bench in Acerra.

Puzone was discovered with significant injuries to his limbs and a bloodied face, conditions reportedly linked to long-term alcohol addiction and social abandonment. His rescue was prompted by a viral social media appeal from activist Alessandro Cannavacciuolo, which mobilized local authorities and emergency services.

Following the intervention of the 118 emergency team and local social services, Puzone was transported to the Villa dei Fiori Clinic in Acerra for urgent medical care and testing. Local officials, including Mayor Tito D’Errico, are considering legal and socio-sanitary measures, such as a compulsory treatment order (TSO), to ensure his long-term recovery and stability.
