Pig farmers in Hungary and Romania receive significant financial support
Agricultural sectors in Hungary and Romania are receiving significant financial support to bolster pig farming operations.
In Hungary, Minister Szabolcs Bóna announced that pig farmers have received 3.7 billion forints in advanced support. This includes 1.6 billion forints for pig fattening during the third and fourth quarters, and 2.1 billion forints for breeding sows for the second and third quarters. This initiative marks the first time the ministry has provided a six-month advance for animal welfare programs to help farmers manage daily operations during difficult market conditions.
In Romania, the Chamber of Deputies passed a law allowing pig farmers to receive up to 3 million euros in state aid. The program, developed by the RMDSZ, aims to cover costs related to preventing and controlling African Swine Fever. Eligible entities, including companies and family businesses with proper veterinary permits, can seek reimbursement for expenses such as disinfectants, protective equipment, and feed sterilization. To receive the funds, farmers must provide accounting documentation to prove their expenditures.
