Pigneto railway hub development scheduled for 2027 opening

Infrastructure projects are underway to transform the Pigneto area into a major transport hub in Rome. According to RFI, the first configuration of the new railway station is expected to be activated in the first quarter of 2027.

The project aims to create a strategic interchange between the FL1 and FL3 regional rail lines and Metro C. Following a 31-day suspension of rail traffic between Roma Tiburtina and Roma Ostiense in August, construction has resumed. Completed works include the installation of foundation structures, load-bearing elements, the second track in its final configuration, and portions of the station roof and Metro C pedestrian underpass.

Future phases of the development include expanding the node via the Mandrione stop to serve the FL4 and FL6 lines. The final project also envisions covering the railway valley and constructing a new 13,000-square-meter pedestrian plaza.
