Päijät-Häme municipalities propose joint industrial park

Municipalities in the Päijät-Häme region, including Lahti, Hollola, Heinola, and Orimattila, are exploring the creation of a joint multi-location industrial park to attract large-scale investments. The initiative aims to address the diminishing availability of large industrial areas in Lahti by pooling resources to offer more diverse and extensive sites, better connections, and reliable energy.

A study has identified nine potential areas across the four municipalities for development. To ensure economic sustainability, the project proposes a phased development approach based on actual demand and investment probability. Discussions are ongoing regarding a fair model for sharing costs and benefits, with the potential establishment of a joint company to manage development and investment procurement. The goal is to create a competitive regional entity that can respond quickly to the needs of modern industrial investors.
