Pilates industry expands through hybrid training and digital formats
The fitness industry is seeing a significant expansion in Pilates, driven by new hybrid formats and digital accessibility. In the United States, the ‘Pilates Sculpt’ trend is gaining popularity in studios, particularly in regions like Washington. This modality combines traditional Pilates principles—such as core stability and controlled movement—with strength training, resistance, and higher repetitions using weights, elastic bands, or body weight.
In Brazil, BOOM Fit Club is investing over R$ 1 million to launch ‘Pilates Solo,’ a mat-based version of the practice that requires no specialized equipment like the Reformer. The company aims to attract 20,000 new students and increase revenue by 20% over the next year. This move follows a massive surge in demand; Wellhub data shows Pilates check-ins in Brazil grew by 277.6% between 2019 and 2024, making it the second most sought-after physical activity in the country.
Global trends support this growth, with ClassPass reporting that Pilates has been its most booked workout for three consecutive years. As the market evolves, the focus is shifting from equipment-heavy studio sessions toward more versatile, functional, and digital-friendly formats.
