Pilatus PC-12 PRO receives certification for Safety Autoland system
Pilatus has announced that the Safety Autoland system for its new PC-12 PRO aircraft has received certification from both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
Integrated into a cockpit based on the Garmin G3000 PRIME platform, the Safety Autoland system is designed to manage emergencies such as sudden pilot incapacitation due to medical issues. The system can be triggered via a dedicated activation button or by detecting pilot inactivity. Once engaged, the aircraft takes full control, analyzing weather, aircraft status, navigation data, and remaining fuel to select the most suitable airport.
The system evaluates various factors, including runway length, wind, and terrain, to calculate a safe route. It manages all necessary procedures for a safe landing, including the configuration of flaps, landing gear, lighting, and de-icing, as well as automated communication and engine shutdown.
