Pilgrims undertake religious walks in Mexico and Peru
Religious pilgrimages are being observed in Mexico and Peru, as thousands of devotees undertake long walks to honor sacred figures.
In Mexico, pilgrims are walking toward Real de Catorce to honor San Francisco de Asís. Participants, ranging from children to seniors, gather in Matehuala to begin the journey toward Villa de la Paz. Some devotees have maintained this tradition for decades, walking to express gratitude for perceived miracles or to fulfill religious vows.
In Peru, thousands of pilgrims from various regions, including Lima, Tacna, and Chiclayo, are trekking toward the highlands of Ayabaca. The journey is dedicated to the Señor Cautivo de Ayabaca. The pilgrims carry religious symbols such as large crosses and rosaries, walking for several days as an expression of sacrifice and faith to seek divine favors or offer thanks.
