Pilo Lil mayor reports knife threat from predecessor

The mayor of Pilo Lil, Andrés Avelino Infante, has filed a complaint against his predecessor, Eliseo Díaz, alleging that Díaz threatened him with a knife during a violent confrontation. The incident occurred at a local tourist stop following a dispute over the use of a municipal truck to transport hay. Infante claims the argument escalated into insults, shoving, and a 20-minute physical struggle, during which Díaz allegedly drew a 20 to 25-centimeter knife and threatened to kill him.

Video footage of the altercation, recorded by a regional coordinator, has been submitted to the Junín de los Andes Prosecutor's Office as evidence. The footage reportedly shows Díaz with a knife while the mayor's partner, Raquel Fantini, intervened to protect him. Following the incident, the Prosecutor's Office issued a four-month restraining order against Díaz.

Eliseo Díaz has denied the allegations of intent to attack, stating he only drew a small field knife (a ‘verijero’) to defend himself after being shoved. Díaz, who noted he has a physical disability affecting his legs, claimed the meeting was moved to a different location to ensure witnesses were present and accused the current mayor of abusing his authority. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
