Mogi Mirim, São Paulo: Small plane crash kills pilot Leonardo Bezerra Pinheiro
On 29 July 2026 a small aircraft crashed in a rural area of Mogi Mirim, São Paulo. The sole occupant, 25‑year‑old Leonardo Bezerra Pinheiro, a commercial pilot, engineer and flight instructor at the local Sport Pilot aviation school, was found carbonized after the aircraft ignited on impact.
Four fire‑engine units, along with municipal and state rescue teams, fought the blaze and secured the site. Authorities, including the Corpo de Bombeiros, the Guardas Civis, SAMU and the Polícia Civil, were present. The Brazilian Air Force’s investigation unit, CENIPA (via SERIPA IV), has opened a preliminary inquiry; possible contributing factors under review include aircraft condition, fuel load and the strong wind gusts recorded that day – winds of up to 103 km/h on the coast and roughly 60 km/h locally – though no direct link has been confirmed.
No other injuries were reported and the area remains under investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
