Pilot launches Navigator AI for restaurant data analysis
Pilot, a point-of-sale platform for the hospitality sector, has launched Navigator, an AI intelligence layer designed to convert restaurant data into real-time insights. The tool allows operators to use natural language to query their own data, enabling them to identify sales trends, monitor profitability, and flag purchasing anomalies without manual spreadsheet analysis.
During beta testing, users at The Palms Plett & Club Haus in Plettenberg Bay utilized the system to detect supplier pricing discrepancies, which allowed them to secure credits from suppliers. The technology is intended for both independent restaurants and multi-site groups, assisting roles ranging from owners monitoring overall performance to purchasing teams investigating menu-level margins.
The launch arrives as the South African restaurant industry faces economic challenges. According to Statistics South Africa’s June 2026 Food and Beverage Survey, real income for restaurants and coffee shops fell 2.3% quarter-on-quarter, marking a significant drag on the broader hospitality sector.
