Pima County authorities criticized over Nancy Guthrie disappearance search

Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer has criticized the Pima County Sheriff’s Department regarding the investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie. Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, was reportedly abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home on February 1.

Coffindaffer questioned why law enforcement has not conducted more extensive searches of the nearby Sonoran Desert, describing the area as a “perfect killing & disposal field” due to the high number of unidentified human remains previously found in the region. She specifically questioned Sheriff Chris Nanos regarding the decision to halt certain search efforts and the refusal to support outside volunteer searches.

The Sheriff’s Department stated that recent discoveries of human remains approximately 15 miles from Guthrie’s residence showed “no indication at this time” of a connection to her disappearance, noting the remains appeared to have been at the location for an extended period. While doorbell camera footage of a masked suspect has been released and DNA testing has been sent to the FBI, no suspects have been publicly identified as the investigation approaches its seventh month.
