Tucson desert remains found not linked to Nancy Guthrie case

Human remains were discovered in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard in Tucson, Arizona, approximately 15 miles from the home of Nancy Guthrie. The Pima County Sheriff's Department stated that the remains appear to have been at the location for an extended period and, at this time, there is no indication they are connected to the investigation into Guthrie's disappearance.

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC 'Today' co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was abducted from her home in the Catalina Foothills on February 1, 2026. Investigators are currently reviewing DNA and video evidence, including doorbell camera footage of a masked intruder. While authorities previously released the text of ransom notes to solicit public help, no suspects have been arrested.

Attorney General Todd Blanche noted that the FBI will continue to provide forensic resources and manpower to support the local investigation rather than taking over the case. Savannah Guthrie has offered a $1 million reward for information, while the FBI has offered $100,000.
