Pinarayi Vijayan and family named in ED request for FIR
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has requested the Kerala Director General of Police to register an FIR against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter Veena T, and son-in-law P A Mohammed Riyas. The request, made under Section 66(2) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), follows an investigation into alleged corruption and bribery involving Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL).
The agency alleges that CMRL made fraudulent payments totaling Rs 2.78 crore to Veena T’s now-defunct IT firm, Exalogic Solutions, under the guise of consultancy services. The ED claims to have evidence, including statements from accused individuals, suggesting that funds were transferred to Dubai. A total of 13 entities have been named in the probe, including various individuals and companies.
Pinarayi Vijayan has dismissed the allegations as a political vendetta, maintaining that his hands are clean. Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan announced that the ED's communication will undergo legal scrutiny before the state government decides on further steps.
