Pinarayi Vijayan detained during Delhi protest

CPI(M) leader and former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was detained by Delhi Police following a protest outside Kerala Bhawan. Vijayan, along with CPI(M) MP John Brittas, was held at the Mandir Marg Police Station.

Vijayan accused the Modi government of a “ruthless crackdown on democracy,” alleging that both protesters and journalists covering the demonstrations have been detained. He stated that the government is using state repression to evade questions regarding electoral integrity and to silence those demanding accountability.

Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan condemned the detention as arbitrary. He confirmed that the Kerala Chief Secretary and the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi are coordinating with Delhi Police authorities to facilitate Vijayan’s immediate release.
