Pinarayi Vijayan summoned by ED in CMRL money laundering probe

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to appear at its Kochi office on October 23. The summons, issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), is part of an ongoing investigation into the CMRL-Exalogic payoff case.

The agency alleges that Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) transferred 2.78 crore rupees to Exalogic Solutions, a defunct company linked to Vijayan’s daughter, Veena T. These transactions were reportedly disguised as payments for IT consultancy and marketing services.

Following an attempt to serve the notice by post, ED officials pasted a five-page summons at Vijayan’s rented residence in Thiruvananthapuram after staff declined to accept it. This action has drawn criticism from CPI(M) leaders, including V. Sivankutty, who described the procedure as unjust, noting that Vijayan’s whereabouts were known.

Vijayan has approached the Supreme Court to challenge a Kerala High Court order that directed the registration of an FIR in the matter. The Supreme Court recently declined to grant an urgent stay on the vigilance proceedings.
