Pindus Mountains and Zagori offer autumn landscapes in Greece
The Pindus Mountains and the Zagori region in Greece are showcasing distinct autumn scenery. In the heart of Pindus, the Valia Calda area—known in the Vlach dialect as the ‘Warm Valley’—features dense beech and black pine forests that turn shades of gold, orange, and deep red. This protected area, part of the Northern Pindus National Park, is home to biodiversity including wolves and brown bears. Notable landmarks include the Arkoudorema stream and the high-altitude Flegga lakes.
In the Zagori region, a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape, traditional stone architecture and historic arched bridges define the terrain. Villages such as Monodendri, Megalo Papigko, and Mikro Papigko offer views of the Vikos Gorge and Astraka towers. The area is characterized by stone mansions, cobblestone paths, and the Voidomatis River, making it a destination for hiking and photography during the autumn season.
