Pingo Doce expands to Terceira Island with new Angra do Heroísmo store

Pingo Doce has officially launched its first store on Terceira Island with an opening in Angra do Heroísmo. The new 1,500-square-meter facility includes a restaurant, bakery, and various fresh food sections, creating 86 new jobs.

As part of a broader expansion strategy, Grupo Finançor—which operates the brand in the Azores in partnership with Jerónimo Martins—plans to convert all existing Supermercados Guarita locations into Pingo Doce stores. This follows Finançor’s 2026 acquisition of EMATER, strengthening its food distribution network across Terceira, São Jorge, and Pico.

During the inauguration, Azores Government President José Manuel Bolieiro highlighted the importance of private investment for regional economic growth and job creation. He noted that while economic indicators such as average monthly gross wages and unemployment rates have shown positive trends, the rising cost of living remains a challenge for local families due to international factors and energy costs.
