Taiwan celebrates Grandparents Day with regional cultural events

Various regions across Taiwan held celebrations for Grandparents Day to promote intergenerational bonding and honor the elderly.

In Pingtung County, a large-scale event at the County Stadium involved over 500 participants, featuring performances from senior learning centers and interactive booths. Local officials highlighted upcoming welfare policies, including health insurance subsidies for seniors aged 65 and older starting in 2026.

Chiayi County hosted a creative showcase where grandparent-grandchild teams performed various arts, including dance and music. Officials emphasized the importance of grandparents in preserving local languages and cultural wisdom. Similarly, in Changhua County, Tianwei Township recognized exemplary families for their intergenerational learning and community involvement.

In Taitung, the I-Kuan Tao Association organized a gathering featuring musical performances and lectures to encourage timely filial piety. In Hualien, Ji'an Township utilized theatrical performances to engage families in storytelling and shared memories. These diverse events collectively aimed to strengthen family ties and promote active aging within their respective communities.
