Pingtung County promotes Hakka culture through talent shows and school music projects

In Pingtung County, efforts to preserve and promote Hakka culture continue through various community and educational initiatives. The 2018 Hakka Talent Show featured ten sessions across multiple locations, including Wanluan, Chaozhou, Gaoshu, Jiaxi, Xinpi, Linluo, Changzhi, Zhutian, and Neipu. These events showcased local performing arts, singing, and Hakka dialect challenges, involving local officials and community members to celebrate regional linguistic heritage.

Complementing these community events, Zhutian Elementary School has implemented a Hakka graduation song project. The initiative encourages students and alumni to co-create songs that integrate music, local landscapes, and the Hakka language. Recent performances included original tracks such as ‘Starry Sky’, ‘Firefly’, and ‘Chasing Light and Shadow’, which aim to foster cultural pride and connection to the mother tongue among younger generations.
