Pingtung County to host barn owl conservation agritourism event

The Pingtung County Government Agriculture Department will host an agritourism event titled “Walking into the Barn Owl’s Fields” on September 5 at Zhenxin Ecological Farm in Yanpu Township. The event aims to educate the public on barn owl conservation, eco-friendly farming, and farmland biodiversity.

Since 2022, the county has implemented ecological service payments to support endangered species and their habitats. Nearly 100 farmers have joined the initiative by maintaining grassy environments, avoiding rodenticides, and installing raptor perches to create safe foraging and nesting spaces. Zhenxin Ecological Farm has participated in this program for five years. The event includes ecological tours, raptor perch demonstrations, plant frottage, and hands-on food and agriculture workshops such as jelly making and tea tree hydrosol production.
