Pingtung County to host pet vaccination event for World Rabies Day

In response to World Rabies Day on September 28, the Pingtung County Government will host a public awareness event on September 19 at the Pingtung Agricultural Products Hall. The event, running from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, offers various services for pets, including basic health check-ups, rabies vaccinations, microchip implantation, and epidemic prevention education.

To encourage participation, owners who complete a rabies vaccination on-site can receive additional multi-valent vaccines, including 50 doses of an eight-in-one vaccine for dogs and 10 doses of a four-in-one vaccine for cats, subject to availability.

Local officials emphasized the importance of annual vaccinations to protect public health, noting that while rabies in Taiwan is currently limited to wildlife such as martens and Formosan raccoon dogs, it poses a severe threat to humans and domestic animals if it spreads. The event will also include awareness campaigns regarding African Swine Fever prevention.
