Pingtung Sauce Life Festival to celebrate Hakka brewing traditions

The 2026 Pingtung Sauce Life Festival is scheduled to take place on September 13 at Zhutian Dunwu Station. Themed ‘Hakka Eat with Sauce,’ the event aims to preserve traditional Hakka brewing and pickling cultures while driving local industry transformation.

A highlight of the festival is the ‘Taiwan-Japan-Korea Fermentation Aesthetics PK,’ featuring a culinary dialogue between a Japanese rice ball artisan, a Korean chef, and local Hakka artisans. The event seeks to showcase how traditional fermentation can integrate with modern dining.

In addition to the main festival, several local restaurants in Neipu, Zhutian, and Wanluan have developed limited-time dishes using local sauces. The festival will also include a slow-living market, hands-on workshops for making salted lemon and pickled winter melon, and various cultural performances.
