Pinheiros faces Barcelona in Handball Club World Championship opener

Pinheiros is competing in the 19th edition of the Handball Club World Championship in Egypt. The tournament, which runs until October 1, features two groups of four teams, with the top two from each group advancing to the final.

Pinheiros is placed in Group A alongside defending champions Barcelona (Spain), Montada (Morocco), and the winner of a playoff between LA Handball (USA) and Zamalek (Egypt). The Brazilian club is scheduled to face Barcelona on September 25, followed by Montada on September 27, and their final group match on September 29.

Pinheiros coach Alex Aprile noted the importance of the tournament for the club's history and the opportunity for young athletes to compete against world-class teams. The club's best previous performance in the championship was a fourth-place finish in 2021.
