Pink Corridor project to study nuclear-powered transatlantic shipping

Lloyd’s Register, A. P. Moller – Maersk, the Port of Charleston, and the Port of Felixstowe have launched the Pink Corridor project. This initiative aims to explore the operational, security, and safeguarding requirements for a theoretical nuclear-powered container shipping route between the United States and the United Kingdom.

The project will focus on identifying the necessary regulations and safety measures for the safe and responsible adoption of nuclear power in transatlantic commercial shipping. Key areas of investigation include ship security, cyber resilience, emergency response, insurance regimes, and the alignment of maritime and nuclear regulatory expectations.

This collaboration supports the US-UK Technology Prosperity Deal and its commitment to exploring civil maritime nuclear applications. The project seeks to establish a structured basis for cooperation, helping stakeholders understand the practical requirements and gaps that must be addressed before a nuclear maritime corridor can be considered.
