Pink Floyd announces new Meddle vinyl edition and restored Crystal Voyager footage
Pink Floyd is releasing a new “San Tropez Orange Marble” vinyl edition of their 1971 studio album, “Meddle”, on October 17 to coincide with National Album Day.
In conjunction with the reissue, a high-resolution restored version of the final chapter of the 1973 surf documentary “Crystal Voyager” has been released on the band’s YouTube channel. The sequence features the track “Echoes” as its soundtrack. The documentary, directed by David Elfick and featuring the work of surfer and filmmaker George Greenough, utilized innovative underwater filming techniques for its time.
Drummer Nick Mason noted that the band was captivated by the footage when they first saw it while touring Australia. The original pairing of the music and film occurred because the 23-minute duration of “Echoes” matched the length of the film's montage, creating an immersive experience.
