Pink sea cucumbers cover Suan Son Beach in Thailand

Suan Son Beach in Rayong, Thailand, has experienced a rare phenomenon where millions of pink sea cucumbers, scientifically known as Cercodemas anceps, washed ashore, covering hundreds of meters of sand.

Local authorities and experts from the Marine and Coastal Resources Office Region 1 investigated the site. Officials identified the creatures as pink sea cucumbers, which are soft-bodied, cylindrical invertebrates with small spines. While it is not unusual for seabed creatures to be washed ashore during bad weather, the sheer volume of individuals in this instance is unprecedented for the Rayong area.

Preliminary assessments suggest that recent adverse weather conditions, including storms and strong winds, likely caused the massive influx of these organisms.
