Pino Hachado border crossing closed then reopened with extreme caution due to snow and ice

Argentina's Vialidad Nacional announced the total closure of the international Pino Hachado border crossing on Saturday 27 June because heavy snowfall left the road covered in snow and ice, creating risks for drivers. The agency also warned of loose animals and falling rocks near kilometre 48. Later in the afternoon, around 14:00, the pass was reopened but officials urged travelers to proceed with extreme caution, use mandatory chains and be prepared for hazardous conditions.

While Pino Hachado remained partially restricted, the other crossings from Neuquén to Chile stayed operational: Cardenal Samoré (Route 231) was open from 08:00 to 19:00 with a chain requirement; Mamuil Malal (Route 60) operated in winter hours 08:00‑18:00 with advice to drive carefully on muddy sections; Hua Hum (Route 48) ran 09:00‑20:00 after earlier electrical issues; and Icalma (Route 13) was transitable with caution from 08:00‑19:00 (outbound) and until 17:00 (inbound).
