Pinterest launches tool to help Brazilian students disconnect during school

Pinterest has launched a new in-app feature in Brazil designed to encourage adolescents to disconnect during school hours. The feature displays messages suggesting users close the app and disable notifications during class time to support better time management.

The initiative follows a study commissioned by Pinterest and conducted by Ipsos-Ipec among teenagers aged 13 to 16 in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. The research revealed that these adolescents spend an average of approximately six hours per day on their mobile devices. Furthermore, 70% of respondents admitted that mobile use interferes with daily activities such as school, family interaction, sleep, and hobbies.

This technological intervention aligns with recent legislative changes in Brazil, specifically Federal Law 15.100/2025, which restricts cell phone use in both public and private schools. The law permits device usage only for pedagogical purposes with teacher authorization or for health and accessibility reasons. The Pinterest rollout follows similar testing in Canada, the United States, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.
