Pinterest reports distinct usage patterns among teenage users
Pinterest released internal research on September 1, 2026, indicating that teenagers utilize the platform differently than they do other social media services. According to the report, teenage users demonstrate more intentional behavior, characterized by searching for specific ideas rather than passive scrolling.
Key internal metrics cited by the company include a 64% higher re-Pin rate among teens compared to other age groups, a 44% increase in search activity, and a 68% increase in board organization. Pinterest noted that this purposeful usage may explain why teenagers spend less time on the platform per week than in other digital spaces.
In response to these behaviors, Pinterest is emphasizing safety and privacy features for younger users, such as private-by-default accounts, disabled comments, and expanded nudges during school hours. These findings are significant for marketers, as Gen Z accounts for more than half of Pinterest’s user base.
