Pio Esposito set for landmark six-year Inter Milan contract

Inter Milan striker Pio Esposito is set to become the first Serie A player to utilize new Italian labor regulations regarding long-term sports contracts. Following the implementation of Decree Law no. 96 in June 2025, the maximum duration for professional sports employment contracts in Italy was extended from five to eight years.

Esposito is expected to sign a six-year deal lasting until June 30, 2032, with a reported salary of 2.7 million euros per season plus bonuses. This move allows the club to secure a key young talent for a longer period, providing greater institutional stability.

Despite the extended contract length, financial regulations remain strict. To align with UEFA sustainability standards, the amortization of a player's acquisition cost cannot exceed five financial years. Consequently, while the employment relationship lasts six years, the accounting costs must still be distributed over a maximum of five years to prevent clubs from artificially reducing annual amortization expenses.
