Piombino and Baratti highlighted by media and art initiatives
The Piombino region in Tuscany is gaining attention through both national media coverage and contemporary art initiatives. The Rai 1 program ‘Linea Blu – Porti d’Italia’ recently featured the area, documenting its diverse identity. The episode explored the historical connection between the Gulf of Baratti and the Etruscan city of Populonia, as well as the modern industrial significance of the Piombino port, which handles steel, coal, and energy products.
In the Baratti coastal landscape, the Casa Esagono—an architectural work designed by Vittorio Giorgini between the late 1950s and early 1960s—is being revitalized as a space for contemporary research. Following a restoration completed in 2024, the building is hosting artist residencies through the SUPERTOSCANA program, promoted by the Luigi Pecci Center. This initiative includes curators and artists working to integrate contemporary research with the local territory, with future results expected to be presented in Prato.
