Piombino FSRU: Snam submits environmental impact assessment request

Snam has submitted a request to the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security for an Environmental Impact Assessment (VIA) regarding the Piombino FSRU (Floating Storage Regasification Unit) and its connection to the national gas pipeline network.

A public consultation period has been initiated, allowing citizens, associations, and local entities to submit observations until October 10, 2026. The procedure is currently in the technical investigation phase.

The civic list Lavoro&Ambiente has called upon the Municipality of Piombino and the Tuscany Region to formally submit opposing observations to the project. The group expressed concern over the project's continuity and criticized the perceived lack of transparency regarding the new administrative procedure.
