Piombino gas leak triggers evacuation of 40 residents

A gas leak in the Casette Minime area of Piombino led to the precautionary evacuation of approximately 40 residents on October 3, 2026. The leak, located near via Ferrer, prompted an immediate response from firefighters, local police, and medical services, including the Red Cross and Public Assistance.

To ensure public safety, authorities closed several access points, including via Grosseto, via Gori, and the stairs of via Pietri. Evacuated residents, including elderly individuals, were taken to a local sports hall where the Civil Protection agency provided water and essential supplies.

Technicians from Toscana Energia worked to locate and contain the leak, which was later described by Mayor Francesco Ferrari as a minor leak. By approximately 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the situation was stabilized, allowing residents to return to their homes while technicians continued work to determine the exact cause.
