Piotrków served as the site of the first Prussian homages

Historical records indicate that the first Prussian homages to the Polish Crown took place in Piotrków rather than Kraków. Following the Thirteen Years' War and the 1466 Peace of Thorn, the Teutonic Order was obligated to swear fealty to the Polish King.

The first such event occurred on December 1, 1469, when Grand Master Henryk VI Reuss von Plauen knelt before King Kazimierz IV Jagiellończyk to request protection for the Order. Shortly after his return to Prussia, the Grand Master suffered a paralysis and died in January 1470.

Due to the treaty requirement that new Grand Masters swear fealty within six months of election, a second homage was held in Piotrków on November 20, 1470. This ceremony was performed by the new Grand Master, Henryk VII Reffle von Richtenberg, before King Kazimierz IV Jagiellończyk.
