Pioz massacre investigation revisited ten years later
Ten years after the Pioz massacre in Spain, Federal Police delegate Gustavo Barros has reflected on the investigation, describing the crime as one of the most difficult of his career. The case involved the brutal killing of four family members in August 2016 by Patrick Nogueira, who was the nephew of one of the victims.
The victims included Janaína Santos Américo and two young cousins, aged 1 and 3. Following the killings, Nogueira dismembered the adult bodies to conceal the crime. The investigation revealed that Nogueira exchanged messages with Marvin Henriques Correia, located in João Pessoa, Brazil, detailing the murders and his intentions.
Delegate Barros noted that the investigation was particularly harrowing due to the availability of messages and images produced by the perpetrator while the crimes were still in progress. After the incident, Nogueira fled to Brazil, where he became a wanted individual by Spanish authorities.
