Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited praised for preventing Niger Delta environmental damage

The Niger Delta Progressive Alliance (NDPA) has commended Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) for its effective pipeline surveillance and community interventions during recent flooding in the Niger Delta. The group noted that PINL’s operational efficiency and sustained maintenance of pipeline corridors helped prevent environmental damage, such as oil contamination of floodwaters, the death of aquatic life, and the spread of oil into farmlands and residential areas.

According to the NDPA, annual flooding in the region typically poses significant risks when floodwaters interact with damaged pipelines or illegal oil activities. However, the recent flood season saw an absence of widespread oil contamination attributable to pipeline failures. The organization attributed this to PINL’s regular patrols, monitoring, and right-of-way surveillance, which allowed for the identification and addressing of potential threats before they escalated.

The NDPA also highlighted PINL’s interventions in flood-affected communities within Rivers, Bayelsa, and Imo States, citing restoration efforts in areas previously impacted by illegal refining and various community empowerment programs.
