PIRA urges early cancer detection for Indonesian women
Novita Wijayanti, Chairperson of Perempuan Indonesia Raya (PIRA), is urging women to prioritize early detection for cervical and breast cancer. Speaking in Jakarta during PIRA’s 18th anniversary, Wijayanti emphasized that regular screenings, such as Pap Smears, are essential for effective prevention and treatment.
Data from the Ministry of Health indicates significant health challenges in Indonesia. Approximately 65,000 to 68,000 new breast cancer cases are reported annually, with 70 percent of patients diagnosed at an advanced stage. Regarding cervical cancer, statistics show that out of roughly 36,000 diagnosed women, approximately 21,000 have died, representing a mortality rate of nearly three out of five cases.
To support women's health, PIRA organized a socialization event and provided free Pap Smear examinations under the theme ‘Healthy Women, Strong Families, Great Indonesia’. The initiative aims to strengthen women's empowerment and improve quality of life through better health awareness.
