Piracicaba police accused of forcing suspects to wear Lula campaign shirts

Military police in Piracicaba, São Paulo, are facing accusations of forcing three drug trafficking suspects to wear shirts referencing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s campaign before being taken to a police station. Witnesses, including family members and political activists, claim the suspects were not wearing political attire during the initial approach and that the scene was staged.

A Civil Police report has identified four potential crimes involving the officers: threat, illegal constraint, abuse of authority through violence or grave threat, and abuse of authority via unauthorized entry into a property. The case is expected to be investigated by the Military Police Internal Affairs Department, as the incidents occurred during the performance of official duties.

The incident has drawn significant political attention. The Workers' Party (PT) has requested an investigation from the Prosecutor General's Office (PGR), and the Police Ombudsman has called for the suspension of the involved officers. The Military Police stated they are initiating internal procedures to clarify the events.
