Piraeus Bank funds flood prevention works in Western Attica

Piraeus Bank is financing and implementing anti-erosion and flood prevention projects in Western Attica with a budget of 2 million euros. The initiative aims to protect and restore forest areas damaged by the wildfire on July 31, 2026.

Appointed as the Restoration Contractor by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the bank is working to complete critical interventions before the onset of heavy autumn and winter rainfall. The project covers four areas totaling 4,189 stremmata and includes interventions in 10 streams. Planned works involve the construction of approximately 400 km of log and branch dams and nearly 1 square km of wooden barriers.

On Tuesday, September 15, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, visited the sites alongside forestry officials and Piraeus Bank's Group Chief Operating Officer, Harry Margaritis, to mark the start of the works.
