Piraeus Bank launches programme to boost Greek olive oil sector
Piraeus Bank’s Centre of Excellence for Agri‑Food is rolling out a set of innovative actions aimed at improving the whole value chain of Greek olive oil, from olive cultivation and harvest to production, standardisation and export. The bank said its agricultural financing exceeds €1.5 billion and highlighted its role in supporting sustainable growth of the sector.
On 6 July 2026 the bank organised an event in Sparta’s Museum of Olive and Greek Oil where President Georgios Chandzinikolaou outlined the strategy and invited producers, academics and technology partners to discuss modern cultivation techniques, climate‑change impacts in Laconia and the use of technology to raise quality while lowering costs. Experts from the Agricultural University of Athens, the University of the Peloponnese and local olive growers shared insights on training, organoleptic analysis and irrigation projects.
The initiative includes financing products, advisory services and educational programmes for olive growers, aiming to increase the added value of Greek olive oil in domestic and international markets.
