Piraeus Central Food Market completes €3.45 million redevelopment
The Municipality of Piraeus has completed a €3.45 million urban redevelopment project for the Piraeus Central Food Market. A central feature of the intervention is a new bioclimatic shelter located near the Tower of Piraeus, which utilizes metal and glass elements integrated with photovoltaic systems to provide lighting for the area.
The project was implemented across four main axes: the construction of the new shelter on Dimosthenous and Lykourgou streets, the redevelopment of the surrounding areas near Makras Stoas and Hippokrateous streets, the reconstruction of pavements and road surfaces on Tsamadou Street, and the installation of a new storm water drainage network around the Tower of Piraeus.
This redevelopment aims to transform the market into a modern hub for commerce, gastronomy, and social gatherings. By combining these public works with private investments and the proximity to the Tower of Piraeus, local authorities intend to create a stronger commercial and tourist pole to attract visitors and new businesses to the city center.
