Piraeus educators face disciplinary questioning over union activity

Five educators and unionists associated with ELME Piraeus have been summoned for questioning in August regarding allegations of “indecent, improper, or unworthy behavior off duty.”

The disciplinary proceedings stem from a case dating back to May 2023, specifically concerning the teachers' participation in a work stoppage and mobilization against the PISA competition. The individuals involved include retired educator Giorgos Kavvadias, ELME Piraeus board member Akritas Kalousis, Dimitris Mitropoulos, and Nektarios Chatzandreou.

Union organizations argue that the charges are not merely about individual conduct but represent a crackdown on collective union action and the right of educators to publicly criticize educational policy.
