Piraeus seeks 130 million euro undergrounding of Line 1

Piraeus Mayor Giannis Moralis met with Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Giorgos Kotsiras to prioritize the undergrounding of STASY Line 1, spanning from Neo Faliro to the Piraeus port.

Existing studies estimate the project cost at approximately 130 million euros, though the study requires partial updating. The initiative is described as a long-standing demand of the city, aimed at improving urban mobility, city operations, and regional development for both residents and travelers using the major port.

Other topics discussed during the meeting included traffic management in Piraeus, service improvements for new courts expected to open in early 2027, the removal of trolley cables to be replaced by electric buses, and matters concerning local electric train and tram stations.
