Piraeus to invest over 15.8 million euros in sports facilities

Two major historical sports facilities in Piraeus are set to undergo significant upgrades with a total investment exceeding 15.8 million euros. Deputy Minister of Sports Giannis Vroutsis announced the projects, which focus on energy efficiency and structural reconstruction.

The Petros Kapageroff Indoor Swimming Pool will receive an energy upgrade costing 2.5 million euros, combined with a 790,000 euro structural reinforcement, bringing the total intervention for the facility to 3.29 million euros. Previous upgrades, such as new starting blocks and circulation pumps, have already reduced electricity consumption by 66%.

Additionally, the Petros Kapageroff Indoor Gymnasium, which has been closed since 2008 due to structural integrity issues, will undergo a full reconstruction. This project is funded by the Attica Region with approximately 12.6 million euros and is expected to reopen in the summer of 2027.
