Piramal Pharma expands North American manufacturing and testing capabilities

Piramal Pharma Solutions (PPS) is expanding its global manufacturing and research capabilities through new investments and facility upgrades in North America.

In Ontario, Canada, the company has received funding from the provincial Life Sciences Scale-Up Fund to upgrade its active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) site in Aurora. The investment aims to strengthen domestic pharmaceutical supply chains, support research and development, and enhance clinical and commercial manufacturing. The project is expected to create 12 new jobs and protect 183 existing positions while focusing on site modernization and sustainability.

In the United States, PPS has opened a new microbiology laboratory at its sterile injectable facility in Lexington, Kentucky. This laboratory is part of a broader 85 million USD expansion of the site. The new facility more than triples existing microbiology testing space and includes a dedicated sterility testing suite with an integrated isolator. These enhancements are expected to reduce testing times by up to 50%, potentially accelerating batch releases as products transition from clinical to commercial stages.
