Piran Bay oil slick covers 1.5 hectares of sea
An oil slick covering approximately 1.5 hectares (15,000 square meters) has been detected in the Piran Bay, near the tourist area of Bernardin and the Hotel Histrion in Slovenia. Authorities were notified of the pollution at 5:15 PM, prompting a response from maritime police, firefighters, and other emergency services.
Officials utilized drones to assess the extent of the slick, which is roughly equivalent to the size of two standard football pitches. The exact source of the oil derivatives remains unknown, with investigators working to determine if the spill originated from a vessel, an offshore source, or runoff from land. The investigation is ongoing to identify the specific substance and evaluate potential damage to the local marine ecosystem.
