Piranguinho named National Capital of Pé de Moleque
The city of Piranguinho, located in southern Minas Gerais, has officially been named the National Capital of Pé de Moleque. The designation was formalized through Law 15.515, which was sanctioned without vetoes and published in the Official Gazette of the Union.
The recognition celebrates a century-old tradition of artisanal candy production that began in 1911 at the Sapucahy railway station. This craft has become a cornerstone of the local economy and cultural identity, having been recognized as cultural heritage in Minas Gerais since 2009.
The legislation originated from a bill presented by former federal deputy Bilac Pinto. Senator Professora Dorinha Seabra, the rapporteur of the proposal, highlighted the importance of the annual 'Festival of the World's Largest Pé de Moleque,' noting that the 2025 edition featured a candy measuring 31.3 meters in length and attracted over 17,000 visitors.
