Pirate copy of Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey' streamed on X, viewed by over 2 million
On July 25, a high‑quality illegal copy of Christopher Nolan’s film *Odyssey* was posted on the social‑media platform X. Within roughly two and a half hours the video attracted more than 2.1 million views before the platform removed it and suspended the account that had uploaded the film.
Universal Pictures released an official statement saying it had immediately initiated procedures to remove the unauthorized content and would pursue all appropriate legal steps to protect its intellectual‑property rights. The studio also noted that the leak had not harmed the movie’s performance; the film earned an additional $87 million in its second U.S. weekend, bringing its worldwide gross to nearly $640 million, making it one of the top‑earning releases of the year.
Elon Musk, owner of X, publicly criticized the film and suggested his own AI tool would eventually produce a “historically faithful” version of the story. Despite the piracy incident, audience demand for the IMAX presentation remains strong.
